What is a Percentile?

Percentiles show how your child's measurements compare to other children who are the same age and sex. For example, if your child's weight is in the 20th percentile, they weigh more than 20 percent of children their age and sex.

How to Measure Your Baby at Home

Weight

1. Weigh yourself while holding your undressed baby
2. Weigh yourself alone
3. Subtract your weight from the combined weight

Height/Length

• Lay your baby on a flat surface
• Measure from head crown to heel bottom
• You may need help to stretch legs straight
• Record to nearest tenth of inch/centimeter

Head Circumference

• Wrap measuring tape above eyebrows and ears
• Measure around widest part of back of head
• Take three measurements and use the largest
• Record to nearest tenth of centimeter
